TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Dropping temperatures in Florida have the state’s black bears on the move.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports (https://on.tdo.com/1yUXZn6 ) that the bears need to eat 20,000 calories a day during the winter and that causes them to come into areas where humans live.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says people who feed bears either intentionally or by not securing their garbage and other outside food desensitizes them to human beings and makes them more dangerous.

The agency has euthanized 30 bears so far this year for nuisance behavior. Another 134 have been killed in traffic crashes in the state.

There are approximately 3,000 black bears in the state.
