VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - Former University of South Dakota men’s basketball coach Doug Martin has died in La Crosse, Wis., his hometown.

The university announced that the 78-year-old former coach died on Sunday. He coached at three South Dakota colleges over 31 years, including the University of South Dakota and Dakota Wesleyan University.

He started his career as a high school basketball coach in Wisconsin. In 2011, Martin got inducted into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.
