JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee prison inmate now faces charges in the death of another inmate last summer.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation say 32-year-old Montrez Duncan was booked this week on charges of reckless homicide and tampering with evidence. Duncan remains in custody at Northeast Correctional Complex in Mountain City.

Investigators said 24-year-old Timothy Tillery Jr. of Knoxville was an inmate at the prison and was found unconscious in his cell on July 18.

The TBI says Tillery entered Duncan’s cell, and the two were involved in a physical altercation. Agents allege Duncan and another inmate carried a semiconscious Tillery back to his cell, where guards found him later. Tillery was taken to a hospital and died the next day.

A Johnson County grand jury indicted Duncan on Nov. 14.
