LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police say a 91-year-old driver backed an SUV into a pair of pedestrians in a post office parking lot, killing a 74-year-old woman and severely injuring an 83-year-old man.

An LAPD statement says that the Monday collision in West Los Angeles was an accident.

Police say the 91-year-old woman was backing up a Mitsubishi Montero when she hit the two people.

The 74-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene.

The 83-year-old man was taken to a hospital with what police called severe injuries.

Police say the driver was released from the scene after they interviewed her and determined that drugs and alcohol were not factors, but the investigation is continuing.
