PHOENIX (AP) - A 38-year-old Phoenix woman previously convicted of child abuse is accused of stabbing her two children before calling 911.

Police say Brenda Begay’s 12-year-old daughter woke up early Monday morning as she was being stabbed in the chest and then discovered her 13-year-old brother on the floor of his room.

Police said the children are hospitalized. The girl had a stab wound to the chest and that the boy had multiple stab wounds to the chest and a cut on his wrist.

According to police, Begay was standing outside her home when officers arrived in response to her 911 call.

Begay remains in jail Tuesday and it’s not clear if she has an attorney yet.

She pleaded no contest in 2006 to a child abuse charge involving domestic violence.
