NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. (AP) - County homicide detectives were investigating after a homeowner fatally shot a man who investigators say was stealing the aluminum down spouts from a home in the Pittsburgh suburbs.

Allegheny County detectives say North Braddock police were called about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday.

They found a 44-year-old man wounded, and he died at the scene.

County police Lt. Andrew Schurman says the homeowner called 911 and confronted the theft suspect with a gun.

Schurman says, “At this stage it appears the prowler did not flee but advanced on the 62-year-old homeowner. The homeowner shot at the prowler.”

An autopsy was scheduled on the shooting victim, whose name was not immediately released.

Detectives planned to consult with the district attorney to determine whether the homeowner will be criminally charged.
