HOLLY HILL, S.C. (AP) - Police say a 21-year-old man broke a fourth-grade teacher’s arm in front of her students at an Orangeburg County elementary school.

Police Chief Josh Detter told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg (https://bit.ly/1uTIbQ3 ) that Torian Gadson first knocked on a window at Holly Hill Elementary School Monday to try to get in.

Detter says Gadson was waved to the front door, but didn’t stop at the office to sign in and went directly to the teacher’s room and tackled her, breaking her arm.

The police chief says Gadson has been diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic. His mother says he isn’t taking his medicine.

Gadson was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and his bond was set at $75,000. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
