MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a Mooresville man has been arrested after shooting a woman, then fleeing with their 3-year-old son.

Police tell local media outlets that 35-year-old William Delveare Washington has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

At around 8:30 a.m. Monday, authorities say they were called to a home and found 32-year-old Lashondra Quinette Page suffering from a gunshot wound.

The couple’s son was missing, and police began searching. Washington was arrested at a convenience store in Charlotte several hours later, and the boy was recovered safely.

Washington was expected in court Tuesday, and it wasn’t known if he had a lawyer. Page was taken to a hospital, and her condition wasn’t immediately available.
