SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah FBI agent faces charges after prosecutors say he assaulted his girlfriend during a fight.

Salt Lake City police say FBI special agent Adam Quirk was arrested Saturday.

Charging documents allege the 36-year-old Quirk threw the woman to the ground and choked her several times. A jail booking statement says the woman had visible bruising on her neck and a bump on her head.

No attorney was listed for Quirk in court records Tuesday, and his phone number was not publicly listed.

FBI spokesman Todd Palmer declined to comment on the case in an email, including whether Quirk remains an active agent.

Quirk was charged Monday with aggravated assault, criminal mischief and damaging a communication device in connection with a broken cellphone.
