BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Veterans in Beaufort are raising money to expand the Beaufort National Cemetery.

The Beaufort Gazette (https://bit.ly/1wBVaKC ) reports that a local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans has raised more than $10,000 and is donating it to a committee that wants to buy and donate five acres to the government adjacent to the cemetery.

The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates there is enough space at the cemetery to accommodate the burial of veterans for the next 15 years.

But the veterans groups are worried that land for burials might run out after that.
