SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory has been issue an accreditation certificate for meeting international standards.

The laboratory was given the certificate on Monday by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors’ Laboratory Accreditation Board.

The laboratory is West Virginia’s only full service forensic laboratory to more than 800 city, county, state and federal agencies.

The lab provides testing in latent prints, trace evidence, drug identification and toxicology, among other things. The accreditation demonstrates that a laboratory is operating not only in compliance within its own established policies and procedures but also in conjunction with standards and requirements established by external bodies on an international level.
