PARROTSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - An East Tennessee sheriff says two volunteer firefighters and a third teen have been charged in a series of arson blazes.

Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes told the Knoxville News Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1xrcRhA) that the volunteer firefighters, who are both 17, were charged with setting fire to personal property, arson and reckless burning. He said they apparently set the blazes so they could respond and fight them. A third boy, who is 16, was charged with arson.

Fontes asked in October for the public’s help in looking out for suspicious activity in the area of Parrotsville after being called to 16 arson blazes in two months. Most were set at vacant homes and abandoned barns. No injuries were reported.

Fontes said the investigation is continuing.
