ST. CLAIR, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to seek answers after a woman was struck and killed on Interstate 44 near the eastern Missouri town of St. Clair.

The patrol identified the victim as Judy Hastings of Villa Ridge, who was struck by at least one tractor-trailer while standing on the roadway. Her age was not known.

Patrol Sgt. Al Nothum says authorities believe that Hastings was struck no later than 10 p.m. Monday, but the patrol didn’t get calls until early Tuesday. Nothum told the Washington Missourian (https://bit.ly/1uSytMP ) that many drivers who passed by didn’t realize someone had been hit because the body was decimated and it was hard to see at night.

Nothum says no drivers stopped. Authorities are still searching for any vehicles or individuals involved.
