PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say police shot a drug suspect and ex-con who tried to run over a member of the St. Clair County Drug Task Force.

The St. Clair County sheriff’s department says the shooting happened after the Drug Task Force requested help from a marked Port Huron police car with a traffic stop around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The Times Herald says the 24-year-old Port Huron man is on parole for armed robbery.

Police say that when Drug Task Force officers got out of their vehicles, he tried to run one over.

The suspect was taken to a Port Huron hospital. The sheriff’s department says he was in stable condition Wednesday.

State police, the sheriff’s department and Port Huron police are investigating.
