RAHWAY, N.J. (AP) - A man has been charged in connection with a deadly hit-and-run accident in northern New Jersey last week.

Rahway police say 42-year-old Piotr Ciuba, of Linden, is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. His bail was set at $75,000, and it wasn’t known Wednesday if he has retained a lawyer.

The charge stems from Friday’s accident, which caused the death of 36-year-old Jamar Hankerson. The Rahway man was struck as he tried to cross St. George Avenue on Friday afternoon.

Authorities found surveillance video of the accident, and Ciuba was charged after police received a tip from a person who saw information about the crash that was posted on a police sign board at the accident site.

They also recovered the car involved in the accident.
