BALTIMORE (AP) - FedEx is considering whether to build a distribution facility at Sparrows Point, showing interest in the steel mill property.

Baltimore County’s economic development department says FedEx filed an application with the county’s Development Review Committee. But no formal agreements have been signed.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says the talks have been ongoing for some time. He says the county is excited about the prospect.

The Sparrows Point steel mill closed in 2012, and its owner filed for bankruptcy. The new owner, Sparrows Point Terminal, bought the property in September and has been working to clean up the site.

FedEx has not commented on its plans.
