GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - The new police chief in Grand Forks is coming from within the ranks of the city’s force.

City Administrator Todd Feland says Capt. Mark Nelson has accepted the job. He was among four finalists for the position.

KNOX radio reports (https://bit.ly/16pP9XB ) that Nelson has more than two decades of experience with the department. He will succeed longtime Chief John Packett, who retired at the end of February.

Other finalists were Grand Forks Lt. James Remer, Fargo Lt. Joseph Anderson and Chicago Lt. Maurice Richards.
