CANTON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

Officials say 32-year-old Demetrie Jones of Ellenwood died Saturday after being in custody since Dec. 10. He was being held on charges that he violated his probation.

Cherokee County sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker said preliminary autopsy results show that he likely died from what appear to be complications from a medical condition.

Baker tells The Cherokee Tribune (https://bit.ly/13bhkrg) that the inmate had multiple medical conditions which required him to be held in an isolation cell of the jail’s medical unit.
