CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 14-year-old boy shot and killed a person trying to break into his home in eastern Mecklenburg County.

Police say the shooting happened after 5 p.m. Tuesday at a home near Mint Hill.

Authorities tell local media outlets that the teen and his grandmother were home and heard someone trying to break in through the back door.

Police haven’t released the names of anyone involved. No one has been charged, and authorities say the shooting appeared to have been justified.

Police were searching late Tuesday for a second suspected burglar, who fled after the first suspect was shot.
