CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A jury has convicted a man charged with killing his parents with a machete on the Meskwaki Nation Settlement in Iowa.

Jurors returned the verdict Wednesday on two counts of second-degree murder against 26-year-old Gordon Lasley Jr.

Prosecutors say Lasley killed his parents, Gordon Lasley Sr. and Kim Lasley, with a machete on Feb. 5 at their home on the Meskwaki Nation Settlement near Tama.

Defense attorneys argued Lasley was insane at the time of the deaths.

It’s unclear when Lasley will be sentenced. He faces a possible sentence of life in prison.
