EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting his role in pummeling a man with a hammer and metal bar during a home invasion.

A Madison County judge sentenced 35-year-old Ricky Andrews on Tuesday for a felony count of home invasion. Prosecutors dropped charges of attempted murder as part of a plea deal. He pleaded guilty two weeks before his trial was set to start.

Andrews and Robert Kelly stormed a Granite City apartment in February 2012 and severely beat 35-year-old Michael Cuvar following a dispute. Cuvar is paralyzed as a result of the attack and suffers from diminished mental capacity.

Kelly pleaded guilty to home invasion in April 2013 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
