PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - More than 13,000 people have signed up for coverage on Rhode Island’s health exchange next year with around two months left to enroll.

HealthSource RI was set up as part of the federal Affordable Care Act.

Director Christine Ferguson says on Wednesday that second-year enrollment is off to a good start. Around half of this year’s enrollees have reenrolled for next year.

Last year, more than 26,000 people signed up for coverage, and another 2,400 people were covered through small businesses that bought insurance on the exchange.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, United HealthCare and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island are offering plans through the exchange.

Individuals must enroll and pay by Dec. 23 for coverage that begins Jan. 1. Enrollment for 2015 ends Feb. 15.
