RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man is going on trial in connection with two slayings.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says opening statements are expected Wednesday at the trial of Reginald Ross of Yaphank.

Construction flagman Raymond Hirt was shot to death in Ronkonkoma (rahn-KAHN’-kuh-muh) on May 24, 2010. Authorities allege Ross stalked the victim for more than a week and then killed him after complaining about being delayed in traffic.

The second victim, John Williams, was shot to death in Holbrook five months later. The prosecutor alleges that killing was over a disputed drug deal.

The DA identifies Ross as a member of the Crips street gang.

He has pleaded not guilty.
