CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri sheriff’s deputy is out of the hospital and back at work after crashing into an SUV and injuring three people.

The Southeast Missourian reports (https://bit.ly/1AmKY7Z ) a Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department spokesman says 35-year-old Angela Martinez and her 1- and 9-year-old children suffered moderate injuries when they were struck by Deputy Benjamin Juergens’ vehicle on Monday. He says they were up and moving around on Tuesday and are expected to recover.

The spokesman says Juergens was driving south on Highway 25 on patrol when he swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle on the rain-slickened pavement. He says Juergens crossed the center line and struck Martinez’s SUV.

No charges have been reported. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.
