RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Raleigh say a police officer responding to a 911 call shot and wounded a man at an office building.

Area media outlets report the man was taken to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh with a gunshot wound to his chest.

According to police, officers were called to a social services agency and counseling service on the city’s north side on Wednesday after a caller said a patient was attacking a staff member.

Police provided no further details of the incident. It wasn’t known if the man had a weapon.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case.

The State Bureau of Investigation and the Raleigh Police Department’s internal affairs unit is examining the shooting, a customary procedure following a shooting involving a police officer.
