POWELL, Wyo. (AP) - The future of a community-owned clothing store in Powell is in doubt.

Officials say The Powell Mercantile in downtown Powell has seen sales slide dramatically this year and traffic is down.

A shareholders meeting will take place in early January.

Merc board member Diane DeLozier tells the Powell Tribune (https://bit.ly/1BYD31V ) that a decision to remain open or to close the store may be made then.

She says store sales have slumped 25 to 30 percent for the past several months and the store has cut back on employees.

In 2001, the community rallied to open a clothing store. More than 800 people paid $500 per share to raise more than $400,000 and the store was born.
