FREDERICK, Okla. (AP) - Rape charges have been dismissed against a former Tipton High School teacher who allegedly had sex with her students.

A Tillman County District Court judge dismissed the charges against 34-year-old Laura Cowan Dec. 9 after witnesses failed to show up for a hearing - however the charges can be refiled and court records show subpoenas were served days after the charges were dismissed.

Cowan resigned as a Tipton teacher in April and was charged in July with three counts of second-degree rape after police said she had sex with two students.

Cowan’s attorney declined comment.
