SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Sioux Falls firefighters foundation is planning to raise $250,000 for a 6-foot bronze statue honoring firefighters throughout city history.

The Argus Leader reports (https://argusne.ws/1qZeUac ) the Sioux Falls Firefighters Benevolent Foundation plans to place the statue of two firefighters outside Sioux Falls Fire Rescue headquarters in front of a wall with the names of every firefighter who has served in the department’s 134-year history.

The foundation is a nonprofit with a mission of providing relief to victims experiencing loss after fire-related incidents. It started fundraising in October and will also sell commemorative bricks to be placed along the monument.

Local sculptor Darwin Wolf is creating a clay model of the statue. Wolf’s father and uncle were firefighters and he says he’s honored to be included in the project.
