ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - The U.S. Senate has confirmed the nomination of Elizabeth Dillon to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.

Dillon fills a vacancy on the court left by the retirement of U.S. District Judge Samuel Wilson in August. She will be the Western District’s first female judge.

The Senate confirmed President Barack Obama’s nomination of Dillon on Tuesday.

Dillon is a Salem attorney and a former assistant city attorney for Roanoke.
