WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington police say their new gunshot detection technology that pinpoints and locates gunshots is showing signs of success.

The News Journal (https://delonline.us/1IZmBTO ) reports the ShotSpotter system led police to arrests in four shootings last month.

Police Chief Bobby Cummings says ShotSpotter is helping police get to shooting scenes fast. The city began leasing the system in the early summer.

The system’s success is a significant step for the police department. Previously the city bought and owned a system called SENTRI, but it never worked properly.
