PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - One woman was killed and another was rescued in a house fire in Paterson.

The three-story home on Pearl Street is owned by the Holy Communion Episcopal Church and was supposed to be vacant.

Fire Chief Michael Postorino tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1AEyp7Q ) newspaper there was too much fire to get in when firefighters arrived Tuesday evening.

Postorino says firefighters rescued a woman from a top floor window. They found the dead woman’s body after the fire was brought under control.

Her name has not been released.

It’s not known why the women were in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
