PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Officials are trying to determine what caused two separate fires that ignited four homes in Paterson.

The first fire broke out on 4th Avenue early Thursday. Firefighters then had to respond to two more homes in flames on 5th Avenue.

Flames leapt from the structures as the wind carried embers from the fires before firefighters were able to bring the blazes under control hours later.

The city’s fire chief tells News 12 New Jersey at least one of the homes was occupied.

There are no reports of injuries.
