READING CELEBRATING WITH ‘CHARLIE BROWN’ CHRISTMAS TREE

The eastern Pennsylvania city’s 50-foot Christmas tree was even more depressing than the city’s financial condition - at least to some. But folks have rallied around what some believe is a scrawny tree and have decided to make the most of it, just like the Peanuts characters did in the Charlie Brown Christmas special.

FEDS IN PITTSURGH SET TO ANNOUNCE CRIMINAL CHARGES IN UGANDA-BASED COUNTERFEITING CASE

U.S. Attorney David Hickton and Eric Zahren, the special agent-in-charge of Pittsburgh’s U.S. Secret Service office, scheduled a news conference for 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The charges filed in Pittsburgh allege a man printed at least $2 million in U.S. currency in Uganda, some of which was shipped to Pittsburgh and passed at businesses here.



WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA MAN CHARGED WITH KILLING, DISMEMBERING MOTHER, STEPFATHER

Allegheny County police say 47-year-old Frederick Harris III stabbed the victims before cutting up their bodies in their Penn Hills home. Harris in in jail without bond and doesn’t yet have an attorney.

MUMMERS PLAN MARDI GRAS PARADE IN PHILADELPHIA

The wildly costumed group that puts on the city’s annual New Year’s parade says it will also march about 10 string bands down Main Street in the city’s vibrant Manayunk neighborhood on Fat Tuesday - Feb. 22.

PITT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR STEVE PEDERSON DEPARTS ON HEELS OF PAUL CHRYST’S MOVE TO WISCONSIN

Wisconsin officials were announcing Chryst’s hiring as football coach Wednesday night when Pitt chancellor Patrick Gallagher announced that Pederson - the man who hired Chryst - was out of a job, too. The school and Pederson say it was a mutual decision.
