WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities believe a state corrections officer arrested with a half-pound of marijuana may have planned to distribute the drug inside the prison where he worked.

Wetumpka police say 28-year-old Michael Anderson of Prattville was charged with drug possession and public intoxication after being discovered asleep in his car outside a McDonald’s restaurant.

Anderson has worked at Staton prison in Elmore since March 2010. Police detective Mike Hafley says investigators believe the marijuana was meant for inmates at the prison based on the way it was packaged.

Wetumpka police say the Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating. A prison spokeswoman says personnel action is pending against Anderson.

Court records aren’t yet available to show whether Anderson has a defense attorney.
