HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A woman has been sentenced to life in prison in a 2012 car crash that killed a 24-year-old Athens State University student.

The Decatur Daily reports (https://bit.ly/1GVDFX0 ) 32-year-old Caren Gayle Rush was sentenced on a manslaughter charge Wednesday in Madison County Circuit Court.

Rush fatally struck the car Emily Daye was riding in and was initially charged with murder. Authorities have said Rush’s car crossed the highway’s center line and never slowed down before hitting the other woman’s car.

Investigators have said Rush was out on bail on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine at the time of the crash. Authorities have said tests showed that Rush had Xanax and meth in her system before the crash.
