BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham’s main sporting arena is getting a new name through a sponsorship deal.

The BJCC Arena will be called Legacy Arena at the BJCC under a $2 million, five-year contract with Legacy Community Federal Credit Union.

The Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority approved the agreement on Wednesday. The Birmingham-based Legacy serves the seven-county area around Birmingham.

The 18,000-seat arena opened in 1976. It has hosted events including regional NCAA basketball tournaments.
