MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A former detective in the Colchester Police Department has pleaded not guilty to charges he stole drugs and a gun from an evidence room.

Tyler Kinney, of Jericho, is charged with stealing the evidence, including heroin, and giving it to a felon. Since his arrest, he has completed a three-week drug rehabilitation program. He has resigned from the job he held for 12 years.

WPTZ-TV (https://bit.ly/1AhUGue ) reports that Kinney’s lawyer entered not guilty pleas on his behalf in U.S. District court on Wednesday.

As a result of the charges, the Chittenden County state’s attorney has dismissed several drug charges against suspects because evidence was missing or compromised.
