BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - A Florida man has been placed on two years’ probation for his role in an August shooting outside an eastern Iowa vacation resort and apartment complex.

The Burlington Hawk Eye reports (https://bit.ly/13grQ0w ) that 30-year-old Virgil Michael Griggs, of Miami, was sentenced Monday after earlier pleading guilty to third-degree arson and accessory after the fact, both aggravated misdemeanors.

Griggs’ codefendant, 26-year-old Donald Devon Watkins, also of Miami, recently pleaded guilty to arson, assault and weapons counts in the case and faces up to 40 years in prison. He testified last month that he shot and injured two people at FunCity, an entertainment and casino resort, and that he fired shots into a crowd at Stone Garden Apartments and later using a lighter to set his car on fire.
