JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man found dead outside his rural Jamestown home.

Authorities say preliminary autopsy results indicate 75-year-old Alvin Peterson, of Ypsilanti, died of hypothermia.

Authorities say Peterson owned a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident on U.S. Highway 281 south of Jamestown. The driver of a semitrailer reported being side-swiped on Monday night by a vehicle that left the scene.

The sheriff’s office found Peterson’s damaged and abandoned vehicle on the south side of Jamestown on Tuesday morning. Deputies went to Peterson’s home after checking the vehicle registration and found his body.
