SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Gov. John Kitzhaber has nominated Lynne Saxton to head the Oregon Health Authority.

Kitzhaber’s office announced the appointment on Thursday.

Saxton will take over an agency at the center of controversy following the failure of the Cover Oregon health insurance website. Dr. Bruce Goldberg resigned as the agency’s director earlier this year after a report pinned part of the Cover Oregon failure on poor state oversight.

Saxton, who faces Senate confirmation, is currently the executive director of Youth Villages Oregon, a social services group. She was on Kitzhaber’s transition team after he was elected to a third term in 2010.

The Oregon Health Authority oversees Medicaid, the state hospital, addiction programs and statewide public health work.

Saxton is married to the 2006 Republican candidate for governor, Ron Saxton.
