FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A Fayetteville man has died after a shooting near the Cumberland County courthouse.

Police tell local media outlets that 25-year-old Paul Chappell was shot at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday as he was driving nearby.

Investigators say Chappell’s car then crashed into an SUV in a parking lot. A baby inside the car was not hurt, and Chappell later died at a hospital.

Authorities say they have a suspect in custody, but that person’s name has not been released. Police say the two men knew each other and that the shooting was not directly related to any activities happening at the courthouse.
