MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison in a scheme to smuggle military weapons from Mobile to a Mexican drug cartel.

AL.com reports (https://bit.ly/1GW1iP2 ) Carlos Albert Garcia was sentenced to 30 months Wednesday and may be deported to Mexico after his sentence.

Garcia pleaded guilty to conspiracy to export merchandise from the United States. The investigation started in 2010 after one of five men who was arrested talked to an undercover agent about buying military weapons. Authorities have said the men planned to give the weapons to the Gulf Cartel in Mexico.

Cases against the other four men who were arrested in the scheme have been resolved.
