DALLAS (AP) - Mike Wilson, former managing editor of the Tampa Bay Times and ESPN’s FiveThirtyEight website, has been named the new editor of The Dallas Morning News.

A statement by the newspaper Thursday says Wilson will begin his duties Feb. 16. He is to succeed Bob Mong, who is retiring as editor after almost 14 years in the position.

Under his direction, Tampa Bay Times reporters won Pulitzer Prizes in 2009 and 2014 and were finalists several other times. He also was part of a reporting team that finished as a Pulitzer finalist in investigative reporting in 1998.

Mong is retiring after 35 years with the Morning News but will remain as editor emeritus for the transition. During his tenures in various newsroom management positions, The Dallas Morning News won nine Pulitzers.
