GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A grand jury has decided not to indict a Gulfport police officer in the shooting death of a man who was killed during exchange of gunfire with officers.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1zC71JT ) Thursday that a Harrison County grand jury has chosen not to indict an officer in the June 13 shooting.

Police said it occurred after officers responded to a report of shots being fired at home. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation found that when police arrived, 61-year-old Frank Rhodes shot at the officers and they shot back.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said Rhodes was shot four times and died of a gunshot wound to the head.

The officer who fired the fatal shot was not identified.

The shooting occurred at Rhodes’ sister’s house.
