HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) - A southwest Ohio judge has removed herself from the murder case of a Kentucky man accused of killing a great-grandmother found in the trunk of her car in 2012.

Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Jennifer McElfresh on Thursday recused herself from hearing the case of 56-year-old Daniel French of Berea, Kentucky. She worked in the county prosecutor’s office while the case was still being investigated.

French was indicted this month on aggravated murder and other charges. He was arrested last week in Kentucky.

A new judge will be named to hear the case. An attorney has entered a not-guilty plea for French.

Authorities found the body of 87-year-old Barbara Howe of Monroe in her car at an apartment complex a few miles from the retirement village where she lived.
