CLEVELAND (AP) - A Cleveland man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend in front of their three children earlier this fall.

Thirty-two-year-old Alberto Medina was sentenced to life without possibility of parole for 33 years after pleading guilty Wednesday to one count of aggravated murder and other charges in a Cleveland courtroom.

Prosecutors say Medina had previously been charged with assaulting 28-year-old Marjorie Farrell when he came to her home on Sept. 8 and shot her five times in front of their children, who were all under 10.

Prosecutors noted that Medina’s plea spares the children from having to testify in court.

Medina also pleaded guilty to endangering children and felonious assault. He was out on bond on the previous assault charge when he killed Farrell.
