SELMA, Ala. (AP) - The Selma Police Department has launched an internal investigation after an officer responding to a call crashed his patrol car through a cemetery wall.

Police Chief William Riley tells the Selma Times-Journal (https://bit.ly/1DQBKqs ) the officer was responding to a call about an unresponsive person Tuesday evening and his car veered from the road, hit a pole and plowed through a stone wall at Old Live Oak Cemetery.

Riley says the responding officer didn’t suffer any serious injuries but department protocol calls for an internal investigation into the crash.

The cemetery’s secretary, John Coon, says the patrol car is the fourth vehicle to plow through the cemetery’s wall this year. He says it’s unclear how much it will cost to once again repair the damaged wall.
