SAN ANTONIO (AP) - San Antonio police say an officer has fatally shot a man wanted in a deadly hit-and-run as he was running away from officers.

Deputy Chief Anthony Treviño says officers responded Wednesday to a Taco Cabana parking lot, where a man in a pickup truck had intentionally run over 38-year-old Albert Gonzales. He says an officer and a sergeant were dispatched to a nearby home to locate a suspect in the killing, 48-year-old Henry Castoreno.

Treviño says Castoreno fled from police and that the sergeant pursued and shot at him. Treviño says the officer then shot Castoreno because she didn’t see who fired. Castoreno was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

It’s unclear if Castoreno was armed.

The officers’ identities haven’t been released.
