SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A Salem man who committed three bank robberies near his apartment last spring, including one in which he dressed as a woman, has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Salem News (https://bit.ly/1wI6aWF ) reports that Michael Reece was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to three counts of unarmed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

Prosecutors say in April and May the 31-year-old Reece committed three bank robberies, hitting one bank twice. During the same span he unsuccessfully tried to rob a gas station.

In all three robberies, he handed the teller a note reading: “Money or your life. Five seconds.”

He was caught because the serial numbers of bank notes he got during the third robbery were recorded.

Reece’s lawyer says his client has a history of mental illness.
