PARAGON, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police have identified a gunman troopers shot and killed following a chase that turned into a seven-hour standoff in central Indiana.

Sgt. Curt Durnil says officers killed 39-year-old Brent Kyle Krout, 39, of Zionsville after he exited his car and pointed his gun at them Thursday morning in a rural area near the Owen-Morgan County line about 35 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

Durnil says Krout was wanted in connection with a methamphetamine investigation. He was spotted Wednesday night in Owen County and led police on a chase into Morgan County, then back toward Owen County on Indiana 67 when his car ran over stop sticks and went into a ditch, triggering the standoff.

Durnil says officers negotiated with Krout overnight trying to get him to surrender.
